Before departing to Rome, Italy on Feb 18th I had some business to take care of: Race #2....
MARTHA'S VINEYARD 20 miler. I met Nancy at the ferry at Woods Hole and we were off. On the back of my mind was that flight to Rome I had to catch later in the evening....catching that ferry then getting to Logan Airport with plenty of check- in time.
We're smiling even though it's windy and cold! Just another day in New England, but we're happy to hang out with each other. I'm so proud of Nancy and how far she's come with her fitness since we met 3 years ago (even though I feel like we've known each other a lifetime). Brian bought me the red sparkly headband from Sweaty Bands. Part of the proceeds go towards a local charity. He DOES know however, Chica Bands is our sponsor:)
I finished 3:23:18 and am happy with that. I wanted it under 3:30. I know my body is slowing down, but my attitude remains the same...JUST KEEP MOVING! I started running at 35, so I'm proud of myself and how far I'VE come. It's just a pleasure to still be able to move. I am grateful.I can check this race off of my "to-do" list, because I've always wanted to run it. So I signed up for a few virtual runs coming up in the next 3 weeks (check my sidebar with the link-ups). They are not part of my 12 in 2012 schedule. Yet, I'm happy to run these because I race against ME and can run at any time of the day.
The next "official" 12 in 2012 race.....The Black Cat 10 Miler in Salem, MA on Sunday March 4th.
We're expecting stormy weather, and usually I'm a diehard road warrior, but I will play it by air if I decide to brave the elements. It's not important anymore, just to run and feel good IS important.
I went back to school today and was happy to see the kids. I feel tired and achy (lower back) still recovering from the huge amount of walking around Rome (Brian and I figured 25+ miles) and the plane trip on Sat night. I ended up getting really sick and needed the flight attendant. The turbulence was wicked. I thought I was on Brian's sailboat caught in a storm in Buzzard's Bay (which really happened a couple of times, but one time was the worst....FOG/Knockdown/Surfing down waves).
Still, I ran 12 miles yesterday, then conked out on the sofa dreaming of Europe.
Details next blog.....Rome and a day in Zurich, (thanks to Swiss Air and a ground crew strike at some airports).
Happy to be away; Happier to be home.

Welcome back! And congrats on race #2!

So happy you had a great trip and arrived home safely. Love reading about your races... hate airplane turbulence and bad sailing weather too!
ReplyDeleteI did 7 miles today and am appreciating the Recovery socks I won in your giveaway a while back. A lot!
